Artist Statement

Ever since I first peered through an observatory telescope, I have been fascinated by astronomy and its mysterious expanse into the unknown. My undergraduate thesis work, SPACE//CRAFT, explores the spiritual and fantastical implications of space travel. I am intrigued by the way people during the Space Age imagined the future as a technological utopia and how our present world doesn’t reflect that future. This pattern continues as we project our visions of the future that will someday become outdated once again.
This series references mid-century modern design and retro sci-fi illustrations to re-imagine yesterday's tomorrow. My style draws from space exploration technology and Space Age aesthetics. I carve my surfaces with playful illustrations of an anonymous astronaut, traveling through space on a journey to uncover a universal truth at the center of the cosmos. I bring outer space right into the hands of the holder by making functional vessels meant to be used for daily life and for fun.

About Me

I am an artist with a lifelong fascination with clay. I received my BFAs in Studio Art and Art History from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 2020. When I began wheel-throwing in college, I knew I wanted to take the route of functional pottery. I see pottery as an interactive art form, and I enjoy creating art objects that can be used in daily life. I currently live and work in Austin, Texas and I sell my work on Instagram, at local art markets, and at Yarrow and Sage.
